The River of Time
I couldn’t slow down my heart, you couldn’t speed up yours.

I swam and I turned back,
expecting you to reach me
through the years that divided us.
I was afraid of the world’s eyes,
their silent judgment like cold water
pulling me down.
I couldn’t slow down my heart,
you couldn’t speed up yours,
but still I hoped the current
could bring us together.
NOW
Now I swim at my own pace,
freed from whispers and side glances.
I clearly see the gap between us
— a river too wide for passion alone.
I no longer wait for you to
catch up or understand me.
The river of life carries us, yes,
but I know that my path is mine.
My heart is reserved
for the one who meets me fully,
eye to eye, soul to soul.
