The Best Gourmet Easter Eggs

Easter Means More Chocolates The Eggs are Getting Too Clever by Half. Literally.

In the seasonal chocolate world, there is clearly no time to waste. As soon as Christmas is over and the first pang of January blues is negotiated, Easter Eggs are stacked up in supermarket aisles. Easter must have the longest trailer of all the signature dates in the calendar as the seeds of its sweet April beauty are planted well before that when it comes to high-quality chocolate.

There has certainly been a trend towards gourmet and premium ingredients in chocolate as consumers seek quality ingredients and a more luxurious taste over mainstream brands.  There is now a market for what is known as "affordable luxury". As the world becomes an increasingly stressful place, the great escape involves indulgence in artisan tastes and otherworldly packaging. There's something about the renewal of Spring that makes the chocolate an appetizing reminder of childhood innocence, especially with the traditions that Easter brings.

The Dubai Chocolate trend has been kick-started by social media, so why not incorporate that thick pistachio filling into a luxury egg? One of the better options on the market is Chococo’s handcrafted Giant Pistachio & Raspberry Milk Chocolate Easter Egg, which contains just under 50 per cent Colombian-origin milk chocolate.

The company has won approximately 140 awards nationally and internationally for taste, and there’s clearly a care mark stamp all over the products that ensures quality. This egg is another that has come off the perfection line rather than the product line. That’s the standard for Chococo.

Hotel Chocolat was one of the first British companies to make luxury chocolate accessible and mainstream on the high street at the start of the Millennium. The brand has always believed in making eggs that are extra thick, a concept which rails against the conventional idea of delicate outer segments. The star of the 2026 show is the Classic Chocolate Ostrich Egg, which comes in Everything Thick (milk chocolate), Serious Dark and Patisserie (a mixture of white, milk and dark) and also Vegan.

The shell is about 2 cm wide and was modeled on a real ostrich egg to create the size and scope. While it may look as though it’s the biggest dessert ever intended – and therefore far too indulgent for calorie counters – half the fun is unwrapping the parcel. The Classic version has one shell covered with crispy feuilletine and the other milk chocolate part is infused with crunchy cookies and puffed rice.

Inside the egg, there is essentially a collection of chocolates that could make a separate luxury box selection in itself, including Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Eton Mess and Peanut Butter flavors.  It's a kilo-sized exhibitionist egg. Hotel Chocolat likes to have fun, but there’s no questioning the quality either.

Charbonnel et Walker is a company that has just celebrated 150 years in the gourmet chocolate world. Their offerings always come with an expectation of eloquence as is befitting a brand that held a Royal Warrant to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The company does not disappoint with their first-class front room style cosiness, exemplified by the Milk Chocolate Feuilletine Egg with Milk Chocolates & Truffles. Below the main event, there’s a drawer that opens out with a selection of chocolates and truffles, including a Milk Salted Caramel Truffle, Milk Crown and Caramelised Biscuit Truffle.

There is another eye-catching package from Charbonnel that combines the freshness of Spring with the true Easter zing of luxury chocolates. The Easter Egg Chocolate Truffles package includes a collection of 25 Raspberry & Passion-Fruit, Milk Sea Salt, Strawberry, Pistachio and Lemon Truffles in a transparent box that includes a sneak preview of all these flavors.

Easter Eggs are not all the same, and Melt Chocolates has designed a clever spin on things by creating one that is essentially a tasty Coconut. It is actually crafted from a real coconut and boasts a rich and tropical coconut flavour.  When Easter chocolate makes consumers think of dreamy beach days, it must be doing something right.

As famous journalist Shana Alexander once said: "Don’t wait up to see if the Easter Bunny is real. Just enjoy the egg hunt.” The hunt has begun for the best.
