Scary Movie 6 Trailer Review: Nostalgia, Controversy, and the Return of Dumb Comedy
What is Scary Movie 6 parodying?

Let’s start on a positive note. I walked into this expecting a quick laugh and maybe a little nostalgia. What I didn’t expect was to actually crack up the way I did.
The trailer for Scary Movie 6 played in front of Scream 7, and honestly, it got a bigger reaction from me than the main feature. I haven’t laughed that hard at a trailer in years.
I’m planning to do a full breakdown later — the Easter eggs, the references, all the stuff they’re making fun of. For now, this is just my gut reaction. And my gut reaction is simple: this looks like it might actually work.
Why I Was Nervous at First
I’ll be real — I had some doubts going in.
I like Marlon Wayans, and I didn’t hate A Haunted House, but it never felt like a true Scary Movie. It was funny in spots, sure, but it didn’t have that sharp parody energy the older films had.
So I was worried this new one might feel like a cheap attempt to relive the glory days. Like trying too hard to be funny instead of just being funny.
But the trailer changed my mind fast.
The Parodies Actually Make Sense This Time
One thing that stood out is that they finally have a lot of modern horror material to play with.
You can spot nods to films like Get Out and The Substance, plus the newer Scream movies clearly form the backbone of the parody.
That’s smart. The older Scary Movie films worked best when they built their jokes around what audiences already knew. This trailer looks like it’s doing exactly that.
And honestly? It looks like a fun time.
The Joke Controversy Already Started
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Scary Movie without some backlash.
The trailer opens with a joke that’s already getting people heated. Some viewers are saying it crosses a line. Others are defending it as fair game.
My take is pretty simple: parody movies don’t work if they play it safe. The whole point is that nobody is off limits.
That said, I didn’t roll my eyes because I was offended — I rolled my eyes because the joke felt a little dated. It reminded me of the same kind of humor comedians were doing years ago.
But humor hits everyone differently. Some people laughed hard at it, and that’s fine.
The Joke That Actually Killed in My Theater
Meanwhile, another joke in the trailer absolutely destroyed my theater.
There’s a moment involving Cindy reconnecting with a character played by Regina Hall, and the punchline leans into political stereotypes.
Now here’s the funny part — that type of joke is even older than the pronoun joke. You could trace that kind of humor back to the George W. Bush era.
But delivery matters. And in this case, it landed perfectly. I laughed. The audience laughed. It worked.
Classic Dumb Humor Is Back
At the end of the day, Scary Movie has never been highbrow satire.
If you want clever parody, you watch something like The Naked Gun.
Scary Movie is different. It’s messy, silly, sometimes dumb, and designed to poke fun at everything. That’s part of its charm.
And from what I saw in the trailer, it feels like they understand that again.
Final Thoughts
So yeah — early reaction? I’m excited.
The trailer made me laugh. It felt nostalgic in a good way. And it looks like the movie actually has enough material to parody instead of just coasting on old jokes.
I’ll save the deep dive for later, but for now I’m curious:
Do you think parody movies should have limits, or should everything be fair game if the joke works?
Let me know what you think.
