'WEAPONS' Review

Horror comes back again and again.

Let me preface this by saying that I never watch trailers for new movies the majority of the time. To add more to that statement I normally don't watch them all the way through when I do watch them anymore. The reason for this being that in the last decade films began giving a little too much away in the trailer. That especially goes for the horror genre. Without rambling for too long about trailers lets get to the one at hand, 'Weapons'.

Last night I had the opportunity to watch the most talked up movie of the year and one of the most anticipated which is 'Weapons'. My initial reaction was somewhere along the lines of "is this a true story?; is this based on anything?; why is this one child the only one here?". Afterward my reaction was only "wow".

I enjoyed the character by character perspectives along with the narration by the lone student. Speaking of which, is it just me or are child horror actors getting so much better? I hope they also get the therapy they need, if needed, after working on these films. The anxiety progression is beyond any recent film I have experienced other than when I watched 'Hallow Road'.

My first thought when it's being explained that Ms. Gandy's class had all ran out and disappeared in the night was not that it even had anything to do with the teacher at all. Why the parents has chosen to place blame on the teacher, especially after clearing her and stating that they cleared her was so infuriating to me. I definitely don't want to ramble too much and spoil too many things but Ms. Gandy has a completely different problem.

Going through one of the proactive dad's perspectives was so indescribable in my opinion. Watching characters do actual smart things in horror movies is one thing I am not accustom to. This was beyond refreshing to see.

- Note I started this months ago and at this point I am returning to my review. My views on the film still remain the same. This is by far one of the best modern horror films to date. The multiple person perspectives, the insight, the story. Everything is a cherry on top.

I did hear the creators are delving deeper into the character Gladys and her backstory which I am looking forward to seeing and hoping it is even more thrilling to watch.
