Thieves Among Us
I go to the mailbox to get the mail every day. I usually like getting mail. I often have cool things coming and it’s like a mini Christmas. I like mail. Shoot me. I don’t really know why, I just do. I think I like collecting something that I don’t expect and opening it up to find some nice magazine, a card, or some small thing I have ordered. Yes, I know something I order is coming, but it’s still nice when you get it.

Bianca Bulgaru, Reporting From Kyiv Under Fire: Civilian Life, Drones, and Propaganda
Bianca Bulgaru is a Romanian journalist and Kyiv-based correspondent for Beta News Romania. Reporting from cities including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Sumy, she focuses on how civilians adapt to air raids, infrastructure strikes, and the long psychological aftershocks of living under threat. She also tracks the parallel war over narrative: propaganda that inflates fringe extremists into state-defining myths, and the language politics that can turn a reporting choice into an accusation. Scott Douglas Jacobsen spoke with Bulgaru about habituation to danger, the ethics of witnessing, and why transparency matters for sustaining Romanian support for Ukraine.

The System to Replace Us
I must confess I use Artificial Intelligence. Not to write, of course. I would never use AI to write anything for me. Not because I am too morally superior to let a machine do my work. Generally speaking, I’m lazy and love shortcuts. The truth is I refuse to use Artificial Intelligence to write because I’m too prideful. I am way too talented of a wordsmith to need AI’s help with writing anything.

You Ate What?
What did you say? You ate what? We have been consumed with modern technology. Every week it seems there is some new innovation to consider. Never has it been more imperative to take a step back and revisit what we are dealing with, because everything has a consequence, good or bad.

OUTPUT. OUTPUT. OUTPUT.
Another girl I went to high school with just announced she’s starting to "post content" online. Over the past two months, that makes her at least the sixth or seventh person I know personally who, prior to this announcement, had shown zero interest in the arts or content creation. And if I'm being totally honest (feel free to call me a hater), none of them seem to have the personality or raw passion for the content they're creating. But here they are, venturing into the space anyway.
