Invisibility Obstacle In Business
Reason Most People Have Trouble Taking Off In Their Business
I get it...
Starting a business and launching a product or service is difficult.
It always takes a lot of time and effort.
It is an act of creation that we put so much of ourselves into...
So much of our hope...
Our time...
Our energy...
And we desperately want to see it grow and flourish...
Especially in a world that claims that we can have overnight success.
(It rarely works that way in reality, but we buy into it).
However...
One of the greatest challenges that people have...
Is that once they decide to reveal their business, product, or service...
They encounter the Invisibility Obstacle.
We have this expectation that this beautiful creation that we have will be met with applause and cheers...
And instead we are met with crickets...
Often, for so long that we begin to question if we created anything of worth.
Then, when the silence is broken...
If it ever breaks...
It is met with confusion and questions.
People just do not seem to "get" it...
And when their confusion is not cleared and their questions are not answered to their liking...
They disappear.
We end up back in silence.
It feels like we are invisible...
In a world where we can be on every platform and, at least seemingly, get in front of the entire world.
How can it be that we are invisible?
The answer is...
Because most people create in secret.
They put themselves and their businesses, products, and services behind a curtain...
Perfecting their creation...
And when they finally have their reveal...
They realize that their theatre has no audience.
Another way to say this is that the vast majority of creation happens in a silo.
There is no interaction between the creator and the intended audience.
The creator has no feedback from those who are theoretically will be gaining a benefit...
And those who may be gaining a benefit literally do not know it exists.
So the curtains open...
And you do feel invisible...
Because no one is there.
Then you come to the realization that you have to get people to come to the metaphorical show...
But they have never heard of the show.
They do not know what to expect.
They had other plans.
They are not sure if it is for them.
Plus...
Because the creator has been working in secret...
They do not know what questions people have...
What their expectations, hopes, dreams, or fears are.
Because they worked in a silo...
They really do not know their audience.
They might know their audience theoretically...
But they come to discover that this is just a caricature of the real individuals that exist...
One that is much different than reality.
Which creates a problem...
When you have been spending so much time and effort on this in secret...
You usually "need" it to work once it is revealed...
Because if it does not...
Then all of the time and effort becomes wasted...
And it adds up to be a gigantic waste.
Then the question becomes...
How long can you wait before you "need" to give up.
Which for most people...
Is much shorter than what they actually need for their business, product, or service to take off.
They never realized it as they were imagining their future and impact...
But the reality was that they had been invisible the entire time.
The reality is that what people do not see...
Does not exist to them.
Even if you "show" it to them...
If they do not understand it...
And you cannot get them them to understand it quickly...
It remains invisible to them...
Because they will quickly forget about it due to everything else happening in their lives...
The stressors they experience...
The literal "thousands" of advertisements that people see every day...
And their focus what they currently care about.
If you cannot effectively and quickly break through all of that...
You will remain invisible.
So, how does one overcome this?
Make sure that you are not invisible as you create.
Build in public.
Get people to help you test.
Get testimonials of what you have done...
Even if it is not publicly available yet.
Have everything in places where people can see it...
Even if it is not fully developed or completed.
Doing this changes everything.
When I declared in my business that I no longer did "Leadership Development"...
I did not have a clear picture of what I was "doing" instead.
I just knew what I was not doing.
My first go was with what I called "Legendary Leadership", and I built that in secret.
It was met with the Invisibility Obstacle and had its own problems that I needed to work out.
But with my second go for what I now call "Sageship"...
I began to write about everything that I was working on.
I wrote, edited, and published articles "every" day.
It took me nearly 2 Years to "finally" come to Sageship...
Two years of research...
Testing...
Optimizing...
Verifying...
And the result...
Was that I was getting noticed, nominated, and winning awards for my work...
Long before I had cemented the idea of Sageship.
I had over a year of recognition for what I was doing before I released the idea of Sageship...
And as soon as I released the idea...
It became an award-winning business concept within just 4 days...
And within 4 months, I was recognized as a Hall of Fame Leadership Coach.
Why?
Because I did not create in secret.
People had been seeing what I was working on...
They were asking questions about it...
I was learning how to answer those questions...
I had an audience already forming...
And when the reveal happened...
People were already in the room to see it.
If you want people to see you...
Do not start by making yourself invisible.
Any audience is better than no audience.
Real people are better than theoretical people.
Build where others can see you...
Before the reveal.
