He Knew My Brother

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 7 hours ago 1 min read

Verse 1

I walked in his house on a dark quiet night,

Two carved twins were standing by the fire.

He didn’t know their story or their name,

But something in him felt their ancient choir.

Pre‑Chorus

I felt a pulse in the room like a whispered call,

Like a thread pulling tight through the veil of time.

Chorus

He kept twins on his mantle without knowing why,

But they shimmered with a truth he carried inside.

And I stood there with the echo of my very first breath,

Born a pair, yet I walked this world by myself.

Now I know he was hearing the soul of my twin,

Calling out through the wood to let me in.

Verse 2

He told me once in a dream after he died,

“I knew your brother,” with a calm, clear light.

He couldn’t have known the ones who left before,

But he spoke like someone standing at a portal at a door.

Pre‑Chorus

In that dream he was whole, and he finally saw,

All the threads that had bound us long before.

Chorus

He kept twins on his mantle without knowing why,

But they shimmered with a truth he carried inside.

And I stood there with the echo of my very first breath,

Born a pair yet I walked this world by myself.

Now I know he was hearing the soul of my twin,

Calling out through the wood to let me in.

Bridge

Maybe souls remember what the mind forgets,

Maybe love begins before the bodies meet.

Maybe he felt my brother in the silent rain,

Guiding him toward the place our stories lead.

Final Chorus

He kept twins on his mantle without knowing why,

But they opened the path where our lifetimes aligned.

And the child who left and the man I loved

Met in that room in a moment outside of earthly time.

Now I honor the cord running heart to heart,

Still pulling me forward through the dark.
