Mummy, why does my water always taste salty?
We aren’t sea creatures
We don’t live in the saline sea
Playing with the fishes
Gurgling our mouths with water that makes our tongues burn
So why, mummy?
Why does my water always taste so salty?
Mother, why does my water always taste so salty?
It engulfs my tongue,
Almost as stinging as the demon inside me
It pierces my taste buds
Raws my emotions
Succumbs to my thoughts
Mother, why does my water always taste salty?
Mum,
What do you mean,
When you never answered my question I asked when I was 5?
Mum,
Where are you now,
Now that I can’t find you anywhere?
Mum,
Is it fun up there?
Are you okay?
Mum,
I have always loved you.
Mum,
I miss you please come back.
Liquid seeps into my mouth
Burning and blatant
With a taste i can’t ignore
Salty.
I know now mum,
I know you never wanted me to understand
The meaning behind that awful taste
Live my life in bliss
And oblivion.
But I know now mum,
Because you’re no longer here.
Because the world isn’t as sweet without you.
Now I’ll always take my water salty.
