To Just Dance with Somebody

What it should have been

You’d think in a place like The Castro (in San Francisco), it would be easy to find a guy to dance with. But, in the rowdy gaybourhood… there’s a lot unexpected that could come your way.

Even during an outdoor dance party… someone cute might approach you… and you think this is it… but then he asks if you want pills. You say no thank you and ask for a dance instead… but he’s gone. He might not even play for the team… just wanted customers.

So you head to the facilities, not realizing that there’s actually two men’s rooms. One is… adventurous, shall we say. Instead of the stalls, it’s one large trough. As you’re going, there’s a guy who comes up alongside you. He doesn’t want to pee or dance… just use his wandering hand.

Ok, ok! You zip up and head out. Why do you feel like the impolite one??

So, you go back out to the street, looking around for a club that’s opening early. A guy eventually runs up to you with open arms. This is promising!

You let him wrap his arms around you and you put your hands on his back. You start to sway your hips, trying to nudge him along. Instead, it’s his head that moves, his lips on a bee-line to yours.

So, suddenly you’re making out. Very nice, but still not what you’re looking for. You try to pull away, but he’s insistent. You think maybe you can dance and kiss. So you wrap your arms around him and begin to spin and sway. You make it around one rotation, awkwardly. As you keep pushing, however, he spins out of control and you let go of him as he tumbles to the ground.

He looks up at you with wild eyes, and then starts laughing uncontrollably. He tries to get himself up, but his hands can’t hold himself steady and keep slipping away. He was too drunk to dance! Ohhh Lordy…. How could something so simple become so complicated?

I totally get that. After being married to the same guy for 20 years, the thought of navigating that kind of chaotic dating scene again sounds absolutely exhausting.

I’d love to go to San Fran as an adult! Went as a kid, but jeez, get me there during Pride Month šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜
