A Writer's Fantasies

One can only dream 😉

As writers, most of us have big dreams for our stories.

You know. The usual. Your novel becomes a best seller. Or it gets adapted into a movie.

As we pen our stories, whether it's our first novel or just one of several, sometimes we can't help but to let our minds wander and do some fantasizing.

Some of these hopes and dreams are very possible while others are just a rare and once in a life time possibility. Like winning the lottery.

Here are some of my writer fantasies that I've considered when I let my creative mind wander and daydream.

My book will become a bestseller

Okay, most of us have wished this for our books. Whether it reaches the top 100 on Amazon or hits the New York Times bestseller list, we've had dreams that our book would be an instant hit.

I, like many, have dreamed of my one day to be published book (a sci-fi techno-thriller) to be a bestseller. And it wouldn't even have to be in the top 10! I'd take the top 100. Heck I'd even taken the number 100 slot!

People will create fan art of my characters

This would be really interesting to see! When I write, I tend to be vague with my character descriptions as I like to leave it to the reader's imagination. It got me to wonder, if people read my book, what would the characters and the world they live in look like to them through their eyes?

It would be especially exciting to see character art inspired by certain scenes in my story.

This kind of leads into another wild writer fantasy of mine. I wonder what characters if any would any readers ship? Even if a book isn't a romance (mine isn't), often people tend to want certain characters to be together.

My book will get adapted into a movie

Okay, here's another one many of us have dreamed of! Our novel not only becomes a bestseller but will also get made into a movie! I admit, I've dreamed of this too.

One debating question coincides with this:

Would you want your book to be adapted into a movie or TV show?

As far as my work in progress goes, I believe it would be more suitable for a TV show. There are various subplots and I feel that a TV series would do my book better than a movie would. It would definitely get more intense and high stakes as the series went on.

Whether it gets a series on Amazon Prime Video Netflix or Hulu, I've never thought specifically about where the series would air.

Of course, the film adaption probably wouldn't be nowhere as good as the book. People would say, "The book is so much better!" 😉

Then because of that, people would be inspired to read the book before watching the film version. And maybe then, it will become a best seller!

It will get a 5 star review ★★★★★

We want our book to get good reviews of course!

This is one of the more realistic writer fantasies out there. Your book is far more likely to get a five star review than it would become a bestseller. Even if those reviews can be far and few at times.

Genuine reviews can inspire and motivate a writer in knowing that someone out there is enjoying their book.

I'd love for my book to get 5 star review. Who wouldn't? I'd even settle for a 4 star. No one wants their book to get a bad review, but if you must, at least read the damn book!

It will get chosen as a book club pick

I would be honored if some book club out there chose my book as their book of the month. It would be really cool to see what sort of questions and opinions would come up regarding my story. As my story is speculative fiction, I can only imagine the various questions that might come up!

___

While some of these writer fantasies are realistically unlikely to happen, they can still offer that spark of motivation within us to make our story the best it can be!

No matter what, be inspired to make your story phenomenal because someone out there is waiting to read your book!

And as far as your book being made into a movie?

Never say never, right? 😉

I've been pirated, so I'm halfway to success, I think... 🫡

  • I know that's how we all feel, but like many things, often it is luck, no matter how good our books and stories are. Excellent article deserving of a Top Story
