Unicorn Sightings (4/?)
A new teammate’s journal

Marion Sylverset’s journal — May 15th:
I was called in to analyze footage today. I must say I was surprised. As the zoologist, I do comb over the preserve’s footage every two weeks to observe the wildlife’s uninterrupted interactions. But I just did that four days ago.
So, I stepped into the control room — quite confused — General Admural let me know that an unidentified creature has been caught by the cameras twice. Well… that explains the when, but I still couldn’t figure the why. What type of creature out there could be so different than the fauna we’ve seen?
He showed me the tape from last night and cued it up to around 2:40 am. I may have been the first woman to graduate my university with Masters in Biology, and therefore have 32 years of experience… but nothing prepared me for this!
It was a gleaming (almost silver) equine being with a white mane not only down its upper back, but falling off the front shoulder blades. And then it had a thin horn (that if I didn’t know better, would say was gold) protruding from the forehead.
This was not like any horse… any equine… that I’ve ever seen. Not one like anyone’s ever seen! I studied under the premier Equine and Bovine expert in the country, so I think I can say that. I had to catch my breath….
I clicked through the frames one by one, enhancing where needed, and making sure of the coloring and features. I asked him if he had the film verified by the technical team. He said they combed it twice and ran a diagnostic on the recording system.
I told him, then, what I had already concluded in my head… no matter how improbable. I let him know I would first have to see the creature up close to rule out tampering on the body itself. You can only enhance video so much to check for signs of a fake horn attached to a living head.
He asked me to preliminarily identify it. I told him one thing: “There is a possible classification I could give you… but I thought my whole career it was proven to be fantasy!”
