Things You Taught Me
Why don’t you get a real job?!" I’m asked as I walk into my grandparents house late for dinner. My hair is pulled back into a messy bun still soaking wet from the five minute shower I rushed through. “Why are your hands covered in scratches”?! "You look a mess!" I try to cover these marks up before handing out to my grandmothers, it always used to upset her or anyone else that saw me. The scratches are no match for my bruised legs. My eyes move down towards the ground and I say “tough day at work” I go back to looking at my phone waiting for my mother to arrive at my grandmothers house as well. Tonight we are celebrating a birthday and I so badly wanted to skip it, but family is family.

Millennials
What’s wrong with our generation? Why are we looked down at? Why do older people think they’re so much better than us and we won’t succeed? What makes adults look at us and cringe? Maybe let out a comment, “Ugh! such a millennial!” Are we really doing something wrong? Will we really not succeed?

As a management consultant and professor, one of the biggest "pet peeves" I have is what I call the "hands-off manager." In all likelihood, you have had the misfortune of working for a boss who was just such a manager at some point in your career. For that, I am sorry, as for as much as we talk about the concept of servant leadership, many mangers just don't—or won't—embrace what that concept really means!

Working hard is not the problem. Hell, working hard is all I’ve ever known. I grew up incredibly poor. My mother worked full time. My father was not able to work due to a disability, resulting in a low monthly stipend from the government. Needless to say, I’ve always known that working hard was something that would always exist in my life.

What Do You Want to Be?
You know when they ask you, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I always thought a singer. I used to sing at my church songs from The Veggie Tales, with my cousin and my sister A. Then I went solo and started singing songs that I liked, I would practice them over and over, Thinking I had a voice. Everyone told me I did, and maybe they're right, but I personally think I don't.

Since the age of 14, I had been a runaway and lived most of my life on the streets. I was a prostitute since then because I was too young to get a job. When I turned 19 is when I was introduced to drugs and then the habit took over.

The Fear of Graduating
Like many others, the final day approaches where we walk across the stage and accept our degree. All those 4-5 hard earned years of tears, sweat, and probably more caffeine than necessary materializes into a piece of paper that further reinstates our tears, sweat, and current caffeine addiction. We are graduating and entering into society! A place with no more exams, no more endless hours of readings, no more cramming the night before, all of it gone!

Rebellious Thoughts of a Recent Grad
I grew up with ideals of success repetitively instilled in me harder than a jackhammer on a construction site. My dad always said education is the key to success, which to this day I still don’t doubt. I was fortunate enough to receive an education from the top public university in the world, so by the social norm and, of course, the public’s interpretation, that should mean I attain the golden ticket to a life of immense triumph and corporate hierarchy.

The Work from Home Lifestyle
The work from home lifestyle does not give the user the ability to be a slob. You can still shower every day along with getting dressed although some people like to do the work from home lifestyle, which in their minds makes them able to be naked while working. Writing was the first work from home job. I studied creative writing in order to have the ultimate work from home job. Working from home doesn’t necessarily mean you can do whatever you want and it is, in fact, a huge responsibility.

Flight It has often been said that bumblebees defy aerodynamics and should not be able to fly. However, a recent study showed how the tiny wings keep the bee in the air. The study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 2005, used high-speed photography to show that bumblebees flap their wings back and forth rather than up and down.

Confessions of a Disabled Job-seeker - The One with the Call Centre
I applied for a call centre position for a very large bank in Glasgow with a horse for the logo. We were given our task feedback at the interview. I was pleased to find out that I got the highest grade in three out of four of the practical assessments of the applicants on the day, got positive feedback on the group exercise, and because I had experience in call-handling, managing accounts for individual customers, and company invoicing accounts, I did my individual interview part of the process very well too.This all sounds like things were going well,right?
