It Gets Better, I Promise
I spent a lot of my time throughout college and the following summer wondering what would happen to all those I considered my friends at college and whether I would see them again after leaving. My simple answer is that I failed to keep in touch with many of them, due to my own insecurities about starting conversations over Facebook or Whatsapp or text. Eventually, I even stopped talking to the people I spoke to every day. It hurt a lot to think I'd lost all those connections.

"Keep Calm Richard"
While I was out and about recently, I bought a keyring from a gift shop marked with the words "Keep Calm Richard." Obviously, this is a very generic keyring. One of many to use an adaptation of the WWII slogan "Keep Calm and Carry On" with any numbers of names or titles underneath. Given that I have been at a low ebb recently and wrestling with my health, it seemed like something I should get myself as a poignant reminder to relax. The dark green background clinched it for me—being one of my favourite colours.

The Road
Growing up, I was always one to follow rules. I was taught that if I were to go against what an adult or "superior" told me, I was in the wrong. I morphed into this person that I thought others wanted to see. I have infinite love for my family, as I am so close to them. Which is why I thought what they said was true. I thought that by choosing my actions carefully based on another person's perception of me was critical to succeeding. While doing this I would also never open up and express my true thoughts and feelings. Just the idea of not conforming to what my parents, school, managers, boyfriends, or friends "expected" of me caused anxiety and panic. This person that I was never found healthy relationships of any kind because I was never truly me. I was afraid to show my true face for rejection from the world. I was afraid to tell others how I felt because I feared I would hurt them.

Thoughts on Who I Am
Everyone around me says that I’m either defined by my name, my religion, or even the person I happen to be dating, but I don’t think any of that is true. I don’t think people can be defined by one name or by a god they believe in or their significant other. I think people are defined by what they feel in their heart.

Time for a Change
I'm sure you are all aware of the "history" we've been taught in school and the effects it has had on us as kids and teens. When I learned about the holocaust, 9/11, slavery, and just the pure hatred for anyone who was different, it really got to me. I don't believe muslims were responsible for the Twin Towers, and I also think Hitler had a different agenda than we were told. As far as slavery and racism...that's a different story—and here's what I think.

Unspoken Story
What did that cashier at that retail store do before where they are now? How about that millionaire living in their mansion; what's their story? Well, let me challenge your brain for a moment with a thought of mine and experiences I've encountered. So put that smartphone on silent, pause Netflix, and let me dive into your mind for the next five minutes.Think about this: we walk by and pass hundreds to thousands of people day after day that we come into contact with. Why do they matter, though? Let me ask you this question I want you to ponder through this post. If we never ask about something, how can we ever know? Close your eyes for a moment. No, not literally. What I mean is close your eyes to your mind and just think. Imagine this: you are in a crowded, busy city. You decide to take a rest and stop at nearby bench to sit down at. You take a good look around you and all you see is people. They're all rushing from one location to another. Students going to school, employees going to work, housewives going to the store, and so on. The majority of them don't even bat an eye to one another; they just continue on their way. Most of society doesn't give this a second thought. Myself, though? I want to challenge this view. Think of it this way: each and every person has a name and a story. Their story or journey could be of great trials that they had to overcome to achieve the great prosperous life that they have now, or they could be in a dark pit, struggling, feeling like they are drowning in fear and darkness. Allow me to share an experience I had in the past.

King's Table
"Am I nothing because I have nothing? Or am I everything with nothing needed." This is a Truth that came to me while being in the current predicament I found myself in: homeless. The word itself carries many stigmas. It is a title of disability. Signal of helplessness. Careless perception of being inadequate and ineffective in society and looked down upon while being equally treated as such. An epidemic at it's finest being swept out of sight by bias laws in the name of capital gain and sustained by true law enforcement officers. It is a misfortune plaguing the individuals experiencing it that drains mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Are You a Yes Man?
Are you a Yes Man? So, here are a few questions for you. Do you cave in whenever someone asks you to do something, even if it’s an inconvenience on your part? Do you comply with whatever just to avoid an argument? Do you bend over backwards for someone you don’t even like? The answer is YES? Then you’re a yes man and you’re not alone. I am too, and so are many out there!
