Goodbye, Farewell, Adieu!

It’s been sure nice knowing you!

Wearing a smile

I’m leaving in style.

Butterflies flutter

I strive not to stutter…

Anxiously, I await my turn

A chance to learn…

If today I‘ll embark on a journey

taking me far over land and sea.

Snug in the cockpit

I fit the headset.

A few quick instructions before

I hurtle off with a roar.

Wings waggle, wobble and wind

Playing terribly with my mind.

Fly under the bridge, up the valley.

Instructs a quiet voice beside me.

What valley? What bridge?

I feel disorientated, just a smidge.

Too late! I’m upon it.

Pull up, or you’ll hit!

Your speed is falling!

My plane’s almost stalling…

It veers into a spin

I suspect I won’t win

a career in the Army

after crashing into the sea!

*

My next effort fared no better

My ‘bobble-head’ chortled with chatter.

The plane spiralled into a spin

Sadly, my head joined in.

*

We crashed into the land

Uninjured, I barely could stand.

There was no need to say it

I ‘quit’!

*

Undaunted, I began a different journey

Just in time for school Cross Country.

Puffing and plodding around

A Jester, a capering clown.

*

Some journeys are strung out straight

Their destination, well worth the wait!

Others are shrouded in mystery

Ending, where I never imagined I’d be.

*

So enjoy life’s journey

Wherever it may lead

Through valleys, over peaks and by lakes

Press on, no matter what it takes.
