Beware Halloween Is Coming
Halloween Pranks and Candy Apples The traditional colors of Halloween are orange and black and these also come from the pagan celebrations of the autumn and harvest. The orange color symbolizes the color of crops and changing leaves. As for black, it symbolizes the “death” of summer and the changing of the seasons. Other colors have been added to Halloween decorations and they include yellow, purple and green.

Halloween Candy Through the Years
The one thing that children look forward to the most is getting bagfuls of candy on Halloween. Both children and adults love to get dressed up in all kinds of costumes. My childhood favorite was a witch costume and that being the 1960s the popular costumes for children came packaged with plastic masks. As much as my mother wished I wanted to be a princess or a fairy year after year it was being a witch for me.

In Remembrance of Mom
Both my parents my mom Elvira and my dad Eriks Raisters had had their lives interrupted by WW II. They escaped from their homeland Latvia, lived in DP or Displaced Person's Camps in Germany, got married there and finally sailed into New York Harbor in 1951 to start an entirely new life. It was a happy time when I came along on 1957 and a very sad time when just ten short years later mom and I lost dad in 1967.

Delicious South American Food
Argentina Provoleta or grilled provoleta cheese is usually enjoyed before a meal or as a side with grilled meats. Provoleta is a semi-hard provolone cheese. For asado or Argentinian barbecue, the cheese is sliced thick, seasoned with oregano and some dried red chilli flakes and grilled till the center starts to melt. Provoleta is best when topped with garlicky chimichurri sauce and crusty bread on the side.

Strangest Looking Creatures
Mammals Naked Mole-Rat The naked mole-rat is an animal that has no fur and is nearly blind. These animals live underground in colonies similar to insects. Their nearest relatives are porcupines, chinchillas, and guinea pigs. Not completely bald they have about 100 fine hairs on their bodies acting like whiskers to help them get around. The hairs found between their toes help the naked mole rats to move soil between them while they are digging tunnels. They are among the longest living of all rodents and can live for nearly 30 years and have an amazing resistance to cancer.

Devil Lake
It was going to happen today thought Sheriff Owen. Finally after so much research and so much effort that darn Devil Lake was going to be drained. It had taken so many lives but Jeffrey Owen was a reasonable man he really did not expect to find the Devil sitting at the bottom of the lake, What he did expect to find were the bones of the missing and an answer as to why people died in Devil Lake. That was about all he could hope for and then fill up the lake so that no one would have to worry about anyone losing their lives ever again.

Cobb Salad The owner of the Brown Derby, a Hollywood, California restaurant, Bob Cobb created the delicious Cobb Salad in the 1930s. Looking for a midnight snack he took what was available in the kitchen like hard-boiled eggs, salad greens, chicken breast, avocado, chopped bacon, tomatoes, and Roquefort cheese. He tossed it all together added salt and pepper and made a vinaigrette out of olive oil, red vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce.

Beefy Good Dishes
Europe Sweden Skomakariada literally means "shoemaker's box" and it is the name of this traditional dish because the slices of beef look like the soles of a shoe. Each slice of beef is topped with gravy and served on a bed of mashed potatoes. The beef can also be topped with diced bacon and chopped leek.
