My Personhood is Not Political. Runner-Up in Pride Under Pressure Challenge.
I came out of the closet as nonbinary for the first time to my best friend, then to my parents. Shortly after, I came out again, to my sister. Then to my other siblings. And I’m still coming out, on a regular basis, to this day.

Waking Dream
Lars woke to the sun streaming onto his face. For a while he simply lay in bed, his mattress conforming to his body like a hug, watching the light catch in the crystals of the chandelier above him. The ocean outside was the most vibrant blue. It was another beautiful day.

God Is Dead And I Feel Fine. Honorable Mention in Maps of the Self Challenge.
If the title & subtitle combined didn't make you think of at least one of two absolute bops by REM, I have already failed. When I was a kid, I brought up the Santa Claus issue with my mother. I'd really been mulling the whole thing over and decided it didn't make sense for numerous reasons. How on earth was this fat guy booking it down everyone's chimney every night? Why did his writing look suspiciously like the all-caps style my father wrote with in his office? I'd done my research and come to a conclusion: Santa was probably not real.

Beauty In The Mess
When I write, I usually tend to type the whole thing up on my laptop, and then make passes over the same document to edit. As a result, I am not in the habit of keeping my rough drafts. For this prompt I thought, where's something where I've left behind evidence of the process itself , both the beauty- the final product- and the mess that final product wouldn't exist without? One is not possible without the other, but it took some searching to find evidence of the latter anywhere.

Dominus
I was a gladiator when you found me. I was living in close quarters day after day, smelling the stink of others' unwashed bodies- fighting them for space. Each day we were sent out to struggle for our lives while the nobility watched. We glistened with the fear-sweat of adrenaline as the cheers rolled over us from on high. Our pain was their pleasure. But I don't think it was ever yours. You'd known too much of pain to take pleasure in anyone else’s.
