A Veteran Teacher answers your Assumptions about "Yoga People"
I recently did a Social Media survey where my followers could make assumptions about "Yoga People". Needles to say, they were ALL fun. It is pretty wild to me how many think that we are these calm, peaceful beings. I assure you, most of us are not. Especially Western practitioners. I took the results and chose my favorites to answer for a Youtube video. But, I felt this was a good "bloggable" moment, as well. As a practitioner, and teacher, of Yoga since 2004 I did my best to react to these in a fun and thoughtful way. So, here is the long form version of "Answering your Assumptions - The "Yoga People" Edition.

Sound Yoga
Imagine the country of India a couple thousand years ago. No vehicles, no cellphones and no loud-speakers. Now imagine somebody sitting on the banks of the River Ganges in deep meditation, with only the sounds of the rushing water, native bird calls and an occasional conch shell blown to signal prayer ceremonies at the temple nearby. In this setting - where there are no distractions and the concept of time and space fades to the background - it was very possible to meditate for hours.

Beyond meditation: 5 reasons to include yoga in your sports routine
Although too many the 'asanas' (postures) may seem relaxed and even ridiculous, yoga is a discipline that requires strength, balance and concentration. In fact, more and more people have seen in this millenary practice the perfect ally to work body and mind, becoming a real 'boom' that even has its own international day (June 21). Perhaps the fame is due to the fact that this physical activity produces enormous physical and mental benefits in those who practice it or, perhaps, because it is a discipline of progressive demands that allows anyone, regardless of their physical capacity, to start in a modality that, little by little, requires greater physical dexterity to achieve perfection.

Benefits of yoga on our health
Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body. It is an art and science of healthy living. The word ‘Yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’.

Chakra 2: Ajna or Third-eye.
This energy wheel controls, energizes the pituitary gland, the endocrine glands, and the brain. You will be amazed to know that it even energizes your right eye and ear. Your Mooladhara is even influenced by this chakra hence it is responsible for the health of your skin. This single chakra directs and controls the other major chakras.
